Randy Lieb came to Woody Island in Placentia Bay at the age of 36. He made his living there as a fisherman, and built a rambling stone cottage of which someone posted photos on the Internet.

Someone left a box of artist's paints at his home. He took up painting simply as a Sunday hobby. But to his surprise it went a lot further than that.

He has so far sold over 400 paintings of shore scenes and portraits. He also writes a weekly column for the Port aux Basques Gulf News.
