Janis Evans

Janis and her husband Roy, who is a native Newfoundlander, have recently moved to York Harbour from Ontario. For many years Janis pursued a career as a dietitian and manager of food services in a large residential facility. In addition, Janis enjoyed working with Roy and their two children Kiah and Jessica on their small family farm where quilting, spinning, sewing and weaving were part of everyday life. Since her retirement in 2009, Janis has turned to different creative activities, including water colour painting, making jewellery and most recently making handmade glass beads. Both Janis and her daughter Jessica, who lives in New Brunswick, like to comb the local beaches in search of sea glass. Together they make jewellery combining Jessica's wire wrapped sea glass and Janis' handmade glass beads. They market their jewellery at craft shows and online under the name JaJeJems.

In 2013, Janis and Roy, along with their business partner Blake Mills, purchased a former convenience store in York Harbour which they plan to renovate into a Galleria/Bakery/Pizzeria. In addition to the retail area for artwork, jewellery and of course baked goods and pizza, space will also be designated at the store for a studio and classroom area. Having christened this new enterprise THE ROOST, Janis, Roy and Blake are hoping to open for business in the spring of 2014.
