Acrylic paint, watercolour, drawing and printmaking

Esther Oosterbaan was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where she attended the Amsterdam Conservatory in order to become a professional musician. After working in various orchestras and ensembles in Amsterdam, she moved to British Columbia with her then partner, and established herself in the northern part of that province. She enrolled in various visual arts programs at the local college (where she worked as music coordinator), and her art was exhibited in the annual B.C. Festival of the Arts several times. In 1997 she moved to Stephenville, Newfoundland, where the father of her two children grew up and the rest is history. She keeps busy teaching private music lessons, substituting and also carving out a niche as an artist. She is past president of the Bay St. George Artists' Association, and is currently on the board of VANL (Visual Artists Newfoundland and Labrador). She has exhibited many times with the BSG Artists' Association as well as LAWN (League of Artists of Newfoundland). The NL Art Bank (government agency) has purchased several of her paintings and her art has also been shown in exhibitions of the Arts & Letters Awards in St. John's.

Esther's favourite mediums are acrylic paint, watercolour, drawing and printmaking. Her art is colourful, imaginative and whimsical and ranges from abstracts to landscapes. She will be forever grateful to her mother who encouraged her to take her first drawing course in Amsterdam when she was in her twenties. Esther never looked back after that. Her love of life and art are quite infectious and this shows in her work. The awe inspiring landscape of Newfoundland continues to be a great source of inspiration to her.
